What Utah Families Discover Too Late

Most missionary suits aren't built for the mission field.

After your Elder opens his call, the clock starts. Families across Utah head to the usual places — department stores, local missionary retailers — and spend $400–$700 on a suit built to an average body in a generic factory. Six-day work weeks. Biking in heat. Kneeling in wet grass. Teaching through monsoon season. Most off-the-rack suits aren't engineered for that. They're engineered for quarterly margins.

"We bought his first suit from a well-known Utah retailer. The seams started going at 9 months. The AMBFA suit is still going strong at 20 months — and it still looks sharp for Sunday meetings."
— Sister Christensen, South Jordan, Utah

Why Utah Families Choose AMBFA

Built for the mission field, not the office.

Every Elder's call is different. Every mission climate is different. We design each suit around where your Elder is going and what two years of full-time service actually demands.

01

Fabric Selected for His Specific Call

Once your Elder opens his call, we select the right fabric for that mission — lightweight tropical wool for humid climates like the Philippines or Brazil, premium worsted wool for Europe or the U.S. Northeast. No guessing.

Tropical wool for Pacific, Latin America, Asia
Worsted wool for Europe, Canada, U.S. missions
Moisture-wicking linings for hot climates
02

Built to Survive the Mission Field

Canvas construction — not the fused (glued) interlining used by most missionary retailers that delaminates within a year. Reinforced gussets for biking. Double-stitched stress seams for 6-day workweeks, every week, for two years.

Canvas construction — no glue, no bubbling
Reinforced gussets for cycling companionships
Double-stitched seams at every stress point
03

Meet Your Tailors

A family craft,
four generations deep.

AMBFA Tailor was established in 1960. What began as a small shop serving the local community in Thailand has grown into a family tradition passed down through four generations — each one refining the craft and expanding the reach.

We began serving LDS missionary families after seeing the need firsthand — suits that looked professional but weren't built for the demands of full-time mission work. Every suit we make now carries that understanding.

What Families Are Saying

Trusted by 500+ missionary families

Don't take our word for it. Here's what families have shared after their missionaries completed their mission.

"

We ordered the Mission Package for our son going to the Philippines. The suit still looks immaculate after 20 months. The tropical wool was the right call — he said he barely sweats in it compared to his companion's department store suit.

The measuring process was surprisingly easy — the guide was very clear and the family was incredibly patient walking us through it over WhatsApp. Suit arrived 6 weeks before the MTC date. Exceptional quality for the price.

Brother Jensen

"

His first suit from a department store lasted 7 months before the seams went. The AMBFA suit is still going strong at 18 months and still looks pressed. Worth every dollar — and it cost less than the department store suit.

Common Questions

Everything families want to know

Here are the questions we hear most from LDS families ordering a missionary suit for the first time.

We recommend ordering at least 10–12 weeks before your MTC date. This gives us time for production (6–8 weeks), international shipping (2–3 weeks), and a small buffer in case any minor adjustments are needed. The earlier you reach out, the more relaxed the process. We've fulfilled rush orders, but we never want that to be the plan.

For hot and humid missions — Philippines, Southeast Asia, Brazil, West Africa — we recommend our tropical-weight wool blend. It's lighter than standard suit wool, breathes significantly better, and still holds its structure through long days in the heat. Our missionaries in Cebu and Manila consistently say it's the difference between a comfortable day and a miserable one. We'll guide you on the right fabric during your consultation.

Once you reach out we send a simple measuring guide with photos and a short video walkthrough. Most families complete it in under 20 minutes with a soft tape measure and one helper. If you're uncertain about any measurement, our team walks you through it over WhatsApp in real time — many families send us a short video and we guide them step by step. No trips to a tailor required.

Because the suit is made to your son's specific measurements, significant fit issues are rare. But if a minor adjustment is needed — hemming, sleeve shortening, or waist suppression — any local tailor can handle it inexpensively. We build our suits with generous seam allowances precisely so this is easy. We'll also advise you on exactly what to ask for at the tailor.

The Essential ($350) includes one custom suit. The Mission ($550 — most popular) adds a second pair of trousers, ties, and dress shirts so your elder has a full two-week rotation. The Full Dress ($700+) is our complete package — two suits, shirts, ties, dress shoes, and a garment bag. All packages include a free fabric consultation and worldwide shipping.

We ship worldwide — USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and beyond. Delivery is fully tracked and typically takes 10–14 business days to most destinations. All orders are packed in a protective garment bag and shipped insured. We send tracking details as soon as your order leaves our workshop so you always know exactly where it is.

This is common — missionaries often gain muscle or lose weight from the physical demands of mission work. Our suits are cut with generous seam allowances (typically 1–1.5 inches throughout) so a local tailor in the field can let them out or take them in as needed. Many mission presidents have recommended AMBFA specifically because of how easily our suits adjust mid-mission.

Yes. Every AMBFA suit carries a 24-month craftsmanship guarantee — if a seam fails or a structural defect appears under normal missionary use, we will repair or replace it at no charge. In practice, defect claims are extremely rare because of how we build our suits — but the commitment is there and we stand behind every garment we make.

There is no online checkout — intentionally. Every order starts with a short consultation (usually via WhatsApp or email) so we understand the mission, the climate, and the elder's build before recommending a fabric and package. After the consultation we send a measurement guide, confirm the order details, and collect payment via a secure invoice. The whole process takes about 15 minutes.

Our core offering is tailored menswear for elder missionaries. However, we do offer sister missionary clothing including dresses and blouses — see our Sisters Clothing section. Reach out to discuss your sister's mission and climate and we'll advise on what we can provide. We're actively expanding our sister missionary range.
